Hi, my name is Bethsheba

I’m a Caribean-born dutch creative, photographer, storyteller, and adventurer.

In 2017 I was working as a make-up artist commuting to work 3 hours a day for a little pay. I loved pouring my creativity into make-up, I loved my coworkers and was living a pretty decent life, but somehow I kept feeling so lost. I enjoyed my work but deep down I knew it wasn’t for me. I knew I was meant to live a completely different life…

Six months later I got so fed up with feeling lost that I decided to listen to my gut feeling to leave and explore myself deeper while exploring the world. I decided to quit my job, sell most of my stuff, and left to travel, live in different countries, and dove deep into my inner depths.

It’s been over 4 years since I’ve left my old life. Since then I traveled slowly through Southeast Asia, lived and worked in Australia and New Zealand, fell deeply in love with the great outdoors, traveled solo in my van in Europe and I recently made Madeira, Portugal my new home.

This journey has been incredibly empowering and so so amazing!!!

I became my true self: a wild adventurous woman that follows her heart and doesn’t settle for anything less than the things that make her truly happy!

With this blog, I hope to inspire and encourage you to chase a life that truly makes you happy. Get out there, adventure and explore the outer world and your inner world!

My story

I was born on a big plot of land surrounded by nature on a tiny island in the Caribbean called Curacao. I was raised in a minimalistic and holistic way connected with nature together with ‘hippie’ parents and my five siblings.

Due to personal reasons, we had to move to a big city in The Netherlands when I was young. This is where I lived most of my life.

Although I got used to this new life quickly, I always struggled with fitting into the ‘normal’ life. I remember calling myself a city girl once I grew up,  but deep down I knew it wasn’t my place and something was missing.

I actually felt quite lost growing up in a city that was the opposite of where I was lucky enough to spend the first part of my youth.

The day-to-day life in the Netherlands was too fast and overwhelming and I couldn’t keep up (the grey climate also didn’t help). I tried so hard but I’ve often kept feeling lost and struggled with depression as a teen and as an adult.

After I graduated I started working as an all-round make-up artist. As much as I loved it, it only took me less than 6 months to realise, that this wasn’t a life that would truly make me happy.

When my dad suddenly passed away I realised the importance of life and how quickly it can be over. I decided I owed it to myself to create the best life possible, one that would feel free, authentic, truly belong to me and makes me happy and not just go along with the things society and others expected from me.

So in 2018, I made the bold decision to quit my job, sell most of my stuff and pursue something I always secretly dreamed of… to travel the world and live in a different country.

It’s been over 4 years now and since then I travelled slowly through Southeast Asia, lived and worked in Australia and New Zealand, fell deeply in love with the great outdoors, travelled solo in my van in Europe and I recently made another bold decision to settle down in Madeira, Portugal.

Besides exploring the world, I also used my adventures to dive deep within to connect with my true self.  I learned the importance of self-love, slowing down, and intentional living.

The more I connected with my inner world, the more I started to connect with the outer world and all its beauty. The more time I spend in the mountains and the sea the more protective I got of our natural world.

I aim to live, travel and adventure in a mindful and eco-conscious way, and hopefully inspire others to do the same.
